The KLX140RL air-cooled single-cylinder engine offers a lightweight power plant that is both simple (to operate and to maintain) and reliable. The engine revs easily and riders will soon find themselves wanting to use the full range of the engine.
The aluminium swingarm on the KLX140RL offers both light weight and increased strength. Like those on our KX machines, it features a hairline finish. KX racing-type chain adjusters allow precise adjustment of chain slack, helping to minimise drivetrain power transfer loss. KX-style wheels with strong, high-grade die-cast hubs offer the same durability as those found on our KX racers. Like our KX motocrossers, the KLX140RL features lightweight RK EXCEL aluminium rims.
While most “playbikes” feature a disc/drum combination, the KLX140RL has disc brakes front and rear for a high level of braking performance. The 220 mm diameter front petal disc and twin-piston calliper offer strong, easy-to-control braking. The rear wheel is slowed by a 186 mm diameter petal disc gripped by single-piston calliper.
KX-based perimeter frame made of high tensile steel contributes to the high off-road riding potential of the KLX140RL. In fact the frame uses the same upper tubes as those on the KLX250
The sturdy 33 mm telescopic front forks have the spring rates and damping settings to match the higher level performance of the KLX140RL. To allow for its higher average speed, the KLX140RL also features a rear shock with piggyback reservoir. Both the shock body and reservoir are aluminium. The shock has fully adjustable spring preload, 4-way compression damping and 22-way rebound damping. The high grade KLX140RL rear shock can also be fitted to the KLX140R to upgrade the rear suspension.
The KLX140RL wheels are 19” diameter front and 16” diameter rear for a low seat height. Larger than kid’s bikes, and smaller and lighter than “full-size” play bikes, these KLX’s are a perfect fit for youths. The seat height 800 mm is a nice compromise between the smaller kids bikes and full-size machines. The KLX140RL is recommended for youths up to 170 cm tall and weighing more than 55 kg.
The KLX140L seat height is also a nice compromise between kid’s bikes and full size machines. the KLX140L has a seat height of 800mm.
