Sporty, Learner Approved Riding

The Ninja 400 delivers great performance for a range of riders. The engine and chassis have superb power and are lightweight. Like the Ninja 300 that preceded it, this Ninja 400 model possesses much more than high performance. The Ninja 400 takes the winning formula that drove the success of the Ninja 250R and its successors, and amplifies it. Excitement and ease of riding for a wide range of customers – the Ninja 400 is Australia’s favourite learner sports bike.

PERFORMANCE & CONTROL

The Ninja 400 399 cm3 engine delivers a balance of performance and control. The new engine offers performance at all rpm, with good power feeling. Smooth, predictable response contributes to an easy-to-control engine character.

Relaxed Riding Position

Relaxed rider triangle accommodates a wide range of rider sizes and riding situations. The handle position and slightly forward footpeg position put the rider in a position to control the bike and be comfortable.

Strong Brakes

Large 310 mm semi-floating petal front disc (effective diameter: o286 mm) is gripped by a balanced actuation dual-piston caliper. The disc – the largest in its class – is the same size as the ones used on the Ninja ZX-14R.

Exhaust System

Simplified exhaust system traces a straighter line, contributing to lower weight. Pipe wall thickness of 0.8 mm further contributes to weight savings. The exhaust design features 28.6 mm diameter headers with a connecting pipe enhancing the mid range torque. The stylish muffler provides a high grade appearance.

Wider Rear Tyre

Radial tyres on the Ninja 400 have excellent grip, agile handling and ride comfort. The 150 mm rear tyre looks like a big bike.

Supersport Style Wheels

Stylish star-pattern 5-spoke wheels. Optimised lateral rigidity benefits handling and provides cornering stability. The wheels are a product of technology gained in racing.

Styling

Head-turning looks have always been a forte of Ninja models. The new Ninja 400 boasts futuristic Ninja styling inspired by the mighty Ninja H2. The large-volume bodywork attracts attention, and gives the impression of a larger machine.

Dual LED Headlights

Slim dual LED headlamps (each featuring low and high beams, as well as a LED position lamp) are highly visible and offer significant brightness. Chin spoilers at the bottom of the front cowl were inspired by the Ninja H2 and Ninja ZX-10R.

Downdraft Fuel Injection

Supersport style downdraft intake provides a shorter, more direct path for intake air to enter the cylinder, improving cylinder filling efficiency and contributing to increased engine power, especially at high rpm. (The downdraft intake also contributes to chassis layout by freeing up space under the seat, facilitating a design that offers an easy reach to the ground.

Slipper Clutch

Assist & Slipper Clutch (o139 mm >> o125 mm) with less rigid operating plates offers a light lever pull. The clutch has a wider engagement range.

41 mm Front Suspension

A more rigid 41 mm telescopic fork (previously o37 mm) delivers better suspension action. The front wheel feels really planted, direction changes are made easily (even when the bike is fairly upright – handy when navigating traffic jams), and overall the suspension offers the plushness of a larger model.

Lightweight Trellis Frame

The Ninja 400 features a trellis frame similar in design to that of the Ninja H2. Kawasaki’s advanced dynamic rigidity analysis was used to ensure optimum rigidity with light weight. The engine is rigid-mounted and used as a stressed member. The new frame design contributes significantly to the bike’s low curb mass.

Innovative Kawasaki Technology

The new radiator fan cover (patent pending) located behind the radiator directs hot air out to the sides away from the rider, reducing rider discomfort when stuck in heavy traffic. Redirecting the air also helps keep the tank, frame and other parts that contact the rider cooler, further increasing rider comfort.

High Grade Cockpit

The Ninja 400 is equipped with the same instrument cluster as the Ninja 650 MY 2019, contributing to the high-grade feel of the tidy cockpit. The sophisticated instrument design features a large analogue tachometer flanked by warning lamps on one side, and a gear position indicator and multi-function LCD screen on the other.

Handy Under-Seat Storage

The front seat can be easily removed by pulling a cable located under the rear seat, greatly facilitating access to the battery. Under-seat storage space has two levels for a more efficient use of the space. A handy Tool Kit is located in the lower level of storage.
